Micro-Business Lending

Every “big business” begins as a small business. Here at Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union we believe that healthy small businesses have a big impact on our local economy. It is the small business owner that is in their community, day in and day out, providing quality and compassion in addition to their business product or service.

That’s why we offer our business members affordable loan products and deposit services that are just right at each stage of growth.

And if you need a little help to get your business to the next level, we offer in-house business coaching. Our knowledgeable staff have years of experience guiding people just like you from planning to launch, and from where you are to the next level. Just give us a call.

Contact Scott Whelchel by phone or email to discuss how we can help you with all your micro-business needs.

“I love it that y’all located a branch in the Northside. I love that you give community grants. These are two big reasons why we chose to open our business account at Carolina Foothills.” - Alissa

Some common business questions include…

  • While you don't personally have to be a member to apply for a business loan, your business does need to have an account with us. For example, if Tim owns an ice cream parlor and wants to apply for a business loan, we don't need Tim to have a personal checking or savings account, but his ice cream parlor should have one of those accounts with us.

  • Not online, this has to be done in a branch. You do not need to be an individual member, just a business member.

  • LLC stands for LImited Liability Company. Being registered as an LLC is required for many business filings and essentially registers your business as an entity with the state. This means that any assets purchases or operated by your business are treated as possessions of that business entity, not personal property.

To register your business as an LLC in South Carolina, visit https://sos.sc.gov/online-filings and use their online forms.

  • LLP stands for Limited Liability Partnership. In this business structure, owners are considered partners. Some states have limitations on who can apply for an LLP, and this is mostly restricted to licensed professionals (attorneys, architects, etc.). While an LLC more-so treats business owners as a joint group, an LLP gives owners more individual protections.

This business classification requires two or more partners.

To register as an LLP in the state of South Carolina, visit https://businessfilings.sc.gov/BusinessFiling/Home/

  • While most business filings are handled at the state level, every community is different. You should check with your county and city to see if any paperwork or registrations need to be done on the county or city level.

This may include ordinances, filing with the local chamber of commerce, or special licenses. It may take a bit of research, but it’s worth it!
